Our Pastor

Randy Engesetter

willardbbc@gmail.com | 419.964.6002

Pastor Randy Engesetter was unanimously voted into the pastorate of Bible Baptist Church of Willard in December 2019. He is grateful for the opportunity to serve the Lord and the people of Willard through faithful preaching, pastoral care, and a commitment to God’s Word.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, Pastor Engesetter brings a background of discipline, service, and dedication to both his ministry and leadership. While operating his own business, he also faithfully served as a missionary to New York City for over 20 years, laboring to share the Gospel and establish local churches.

Through that missionary work, God used his efforts to help establish two New Testament churches, one in Bangladesh and one in Pakistan—a testimony to the far-reaching impact of faithful Gospel ministry.

Pastor Engesetter is a graduate of Northland Baptist Bible Institute in North Dakota and Long Island Baptist Bible Institute in New York. His ministry is grounded in the authority of Scripture and a desire to teach God’s Word clearly and faithfully.

He and his wife, Mary, count it a privilege to serve together and are thankful to call Willard home. They look forward to continuing the work the Lord has begun here, serving families, and seeing the church grow in faith, love, and obedience to Christ.

What We Believe

We’re a Bible-believing Baptist church serving the Willard area—families who work hard, care for others, and keep things moving. Whether you’re in farming, healthcare, railroad work, or anything in between (or raising kids while someone else is on shift), we want you to know what we stand on: God’s Word is true, Jesus saves, and there is hope you can build your life on.

The Bible

We believe the Holy Bible is not just a good book—it is God’s Word, given by the Holy Spirit and trustworthy in every way.

We believe the King James Bible (Authorized Version, 1611) is God’s preserved Word in the English language, and that the Bible is our final authority for faith and daily living (2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:20–21).

God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

We believe in one true God, revealed in three Persons:

  • God the Father

God is the Creator of all things—holy, perfect, eternal, and sovereign. He sees the whole picture, even when life feels uncertain (Ephesians 4:6; Psalm 90:2).

  • God the Son: Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is God in the flesh. He was virgin-born, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose again bodily, and is alive today. He is the only Savior, and He still changes lives (John 1:1–14; Isaiah 53; 1 Peter 3:18).

  • God the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, leads people to Christ, and lives within the believer to guide, strengthen, and help them walk with God (John 14:16–17; Ephesians 1:13–14).

Creation

We believe God created the world by His direct act, just as Genesis records—literal creation, not evolution. God made man in His image, and His design is intentional and good (Genesis 1:1, 26–27; Hebrews 11:3).

The Devil and the Reality of Sin

We believe Satan is real—not a symbol—and he opposes God and deceives mankind. We also believe sin is real, and it has real consequences (John 8:44; 1 Peter 5:8).

Man was created innocent but fell through disobedience. Every person is now a sinner by nature and needs salvation (Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12).

The Virgin Birth and the Cross

We believe Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary—fully God and fully man (Luke 1:35; Matthew 1:18–25).

We believe salvation was purchased by Christ through His substitutionary death. He took our place and paid sin’s penalty completely (Romans 3:25; Hebrews 9:22).

Salvation: God’s Rescue for Sinners

We believe salvation is by grace, not by works, and it is offered freely through the Gospel. A person is saved when they repent and trust Jesus Christ alone.

Those who receive Christ are forgiven, given eternal life, and kept by God’s power forever (John 3:16; John 10:27–30; Ephesians 1:13–14; 1 Peter 1:4–5).

What the Bible teaches plainly:

  • You need to be saved (Romans 3:10, 23)

  • You cannot save yourself (Titus 3:5)

  • God has provided salvation (Hebrews 7:25)

  • Jesus is the only way (John 14:6)

  • God invites you to come (Romans 10:13)

The Resurrection and What’s Ahead

We believe Jesus rose literally and bodily from the grave. We also believe Christ is coming again.

There will be:

  • The rapture of believers

  • A literal tribulation

  • Christ’s return and kingdom

  • And, the final judgment and eternal state (1 Thessalonians 4:13–18; 1 Corinthians 15:51–55; Revelation 20–22).

The Church

We believe the church described in the New Testament is a local, visible assembly of baptized believers. We believe the local Baptist church is independent—self-governing under Christ—and was given the responsibility to carry out the Great Commission (Matthew 16:18; Acts 2:47; 1 Timothy 3:15).

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

We believe the Bible gives two ordinances for the local church:

  • Baptism: for those who are saved, by immersion, as a picture of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.

  • The Lord’s Supper: a memorial of Christ’s sacrifice, observed under local church authority (Matthew 28:19–20; 1 Corinthians 11:23–34; Romans 6:3–5).

Neither baptism nor the Lord’s Supper save—salvation is by grace through faith.

Giving and Missions

We believe God’s work is supported by the tithes and offerings of His people through the local church (1 Corinthians 16:1–2; 2 Corinthians 9:6–15).

We believe missions should be carried out under the authority of the local church, and churches may cooperate while keeping each church independent (Matthew 28:19–20; Acts 1:8).

Church and Civil Government

We believe God established both the church and civil government, each with distinct roles. Christians should pray for leaders, live peaceably, and obey God above all. We also believe the church must remain faithful and resist any government control over Christ’s church (Romans 13:1–7; Acts 5:29; 1 Timothy 2:1–2).

Standing in the Last Days

We believe Scripture warns of end-times apostasy, compromise, and false teaching. By God’s grace, we are committed to standing for truth, holding to the faith once delivered, and preaching Christ until He comes (2 Timothy 3–4; Jude 3; Colossians 2:8).
